The Cite d'Europe is an amazing place to visit for shopping. We have been several times and have always found it busy – avoid late Nov and December if you can because the 'booze cruisers' take over.

It is easy to get to from the Eurotunnel or the Ferry and we have bought clothes, food, perfume, wines, spirits, CDs etc. Not sure about electrical goods because of different ampage – so beware.

You can get cheap petrol in the underground part of the car park but it is a small area and can get busy.

Why not pop into Calais itself and look around. Make sure you have some coins for the parking meters or garages.

We tend to drive along the coast to Dunkirk where there is a reasonable range of shops but MUCH quieter.I've found the http://www.day-tripper.net/ website to be useful for Calais shopping and it has good maps/directions, advice etc.

I have visited the Cite de Europe on a number of occasions and found it to be finta expensive compared to Auchan super store. It all depends on what you are after? We have just returned from a trip to France where we visited Cite de Europe and Auchan and noted prices on items we wanted to bring back to the U.K. Dvd's and Cd's were alot cheaper than the music shop by Tesco at the Cite. We also found good deals on the port we wanted and washing powder. The answer is shop around for a bargain, Auchan is well sign posted and not far.

Have been to Cite de Europe many many times. As the previous writer advised, it depends what you are after. City de Europe has great clothes/shoes/perfumery shops. But the supermarket and Tesco are not very cheap and cater mainly for English day trippers. If you want great food/drink bargains go to Auchan, a lot of French shop here and there is a lot more traditional french food and phantastic wine offers. There are also a few clothes shops/perfumeries and a few 'bistros'/coffee shops. Petrol is also cheap and easy to get to. The Auchan site also has a large Sainsbury wine store and you can pre-order and just pick up – prices are good compared to England's Sainsbury, but beware as Sainsbury in Englans has very good offers so don't think automatically that the french version is cheaper. Happy shopping.

Yes, I agree with the other contributors.

Go to Cite Europe by all means, but visit other Calais outlets as well. Auchan/Sainsburys is only a mile ot two away anyway so it's simple to include all of them.

Also visit Calais town centre for a look round and a meal.

And in summer, Calais has a very pleasant beach.
